Creative New Zealand

Creative New Zealand is the national arts development agency of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our purpose as the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa, is to encourage, promote and support the arts and ngā toi Māori in Aotearoa for the benefit of all New Zealanders.

We do this by:

  • Offering funding and support for early career artists, ringatoi and practitioners, arts organisations and groups
  • Advocating and promoting the value of the arts and ngā toi and empowering artists, practitioners and the sector to make the case for the arts and ngā toi through our research and advocacy work
  • Providing leadership to ensure the sector is well positioned collectively to respond to change
  • Developing reciprocal relationships and partnerships that increase the impact of our collective work for the arts and ngā toi.

We celebrate and promote the great value and importance of te reo Māori as a key part of our national identity, working with ringatoi, mātanga, Māori arts organisations, collectives, marae, hapū and iwi so te reo rangatira can be seen, read, heard and spoken throughout the motu through ngā toi Māori including waiata, whare tapere, karanga, whaikōrero, pakiwaitara, karetao, kapa haka, ahurei, digital arts and whakaraka.
