Revitalisation of te reo Māori is at the heart of what we do here at Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori. Our mission is to give effect to the status of te reo Māori as an official language, to promote te reo Māori as an ordinary means of communication and as a living language, and to lead the coordination of implementing Te Maihi Karauna (Crown Māori Language Strategy).
We provide an environment where the Public Sector, Private Sector and wider communities can value, learn, and speak te reo Māori. We want all New Zealanders to celebrate and enjoy New Zealand’s language as part of our national identity – everywhere, every way, and every day.
Communications Advisor
About us
Normalising and revitalising te reo Māori is what Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Te Taura Whiri), the Māori Language Commission does. We put te reo Māori into action as an official language, and promote te reo Māori as an ordinary means of communication and a living language for all New Zealanders.
Te Taura Whiri creates the conditions in Aotearoa for all New Zealanders to celebrate and enjoy te reo Māori as part of our national identity – everywhere, every way, and every day.
Join the Māori language movement and be part of the future you want to see for te reo Māori.
