Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori Recognised at Australasian Reporting Awards

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (The Māori Language Commission) is proud to announce it has received a Bronze Award in the 2025 Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) for its 2023/2024 Annual report.
The recognition celebrates the Commission’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in public reporting. The ARA Awards, now in its 75th year, is internationally respected for promoting high standards in annual reporting across the Australasian region.
"We’re really pleased. Not only have we produced a report that meets rigorous reporting standards but we have also been recognised for our efforts to remain focused on continuous improvement and being the best we can be for te reo Māori, the public sector and all New Zealanders”, says Ngahiwi Apanui-Barr, Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri.
In its report, Te Taura Whiri gives life to the story of te reo: from the people who use it every day, to the partnerships, investments and initiatives that support it. Using case studies, data and insights the report shows the breadth of what Te Taura Whiri delivered in a single year, and what that means for the future of the language and of Aotearoa.
The ARA General Award assesses reports against comprehensive criteria including governance, financials, and communication of organisational performance and strategy. Achieving a Bronze Award reflects a strong level of compliance with these standards.
Winners were officially recognised at the ARA 75th Anniversary Awards Presentation Dinner on 29 May 2025 in Melbourne, Australia.
“Our annual report is an important way for us to show how we serve our communities, support te reo Māori, and operate with integrity. We’re honoured to have that work acknowledged on this platform”, says Ngahiwi.
